About the Artist

Eleanor’s artistic interest started with drawing from a very young age. She took art classes in school up through High School. Along the way she enrolled for a course at the Nova Scotia College of Art on Lemarchant St., Halifax, at the age of thirteen. She knew she would return! Life led her in a different direction out of High School. She graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. While attending the Mount, she participated in an art show at the Mount’s Art Gallery. For the next ten years she kept the dream of becoming an artist in the back of her mind as she continued to be creative in many crafts.

Determined to be a painter, she took courses from various artists starting in 1990. After quizzing the teachers who had graduated from NSCAD about the Fine Art program, the wheels started turning again. The right time presented itself and she grabbed it. As a mature student, she entered the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. In April 2008, she had the degree she had wanted for a very long time; Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Fine Arts with a focus on painting.

Through art school she did commissions on the side and developed versatility as a painter. In May 2008, a painting entered in a juried show with the Contemporary Art Society won the Mayor’s Award and the People’s Choice Award. The painting is entitled “Crow’s Nest View”. A print of this original hangs in City Hall, Halifax.
